Crash avoidance systems currently concentrate on warning drivers if they are too close to another vehicle, approaching a curve too quickly, or are wandering off the road. These scenarios generally result in a serious traffic accident and are typically caused by drivers that are not paying attention or are incapacitated because of sleepiness or alcohol.

Researchers hope that warning drivers in time will reduce or eliminate accidents caused by driver error. cruise control Two main systems are being developed to address this problem. The first is called adaptive cruise control, and is designed to monitor the distance between the car directly ahead and, when engaged, control the accelerator and brake in order to maintain a safe cushion of space. This feature is currently available on several models of passenger cars and light trucks. It’s also widely used on many semi-trucks.
